Snowflake Intelligence: A New Era of Conversational Data Access

By Sonali Nhavale

Introduction

Data is an organization’s most strategic asset, yet too often, it remains locked behind dashboards, scripts, and analytic bottlenecks.

Snowflake Intelligence changes this narrative.

It enables business users across the enterprise to speak to data and get actionable answers instantly. Launched in 2025, it represents a major leap forward in how teams interact with information. For the first time, business users can converse directly with their data asking questions in plain language and getting instant, contextual answers. No SQL. And beyond insights, Snowflake Intelligence can take action directly from conversation such as refreshing dashboards, triggering reports, updating datasets, or even initiating workflows across connected systems. It doesn’t just respond, it executes, turning insights into immediate action.

Turn insight into action. Book a session with our team.

No Code. No SQL.

In a world where data volumes outpace human capacity, Snowflake Intelligence acts as a conversational bridge between people and analytics turning complexity into clarity and empowering everyone to make confident, data-driven decisions.

Instead of complex SQL queries or delayed reports, imagine simply asking:

“Why are customer returns rising?”
“Which regions outperformed our forecasts?”

With Snowflake Intelligence, the answers come instantly, rich with reasoning and recommendations. It connects structured and unstructured sources, from CRMs to support tickets, revealing not just what happened, but why it happened, and what to do next.

When data can talk, collaboration accelerates, decision-making becomes continuous, and analytics turns from a technical task into a natural conversation.
This conversational intelligence is powered by Snowflake Cortex AI, a suite of enterprise-grade AI services built natively into Snowflake that work together to understand, reason, and act on your data.

Meet Your AI-Powered Business Navigator:  Empowering Business Decisions

Think of Snowflake Intelligence as your company’s AI-powered Business Navigator, an assistant that lives inside your Snowflake environment and understands your business end to end. It allows leaders and teams to ask questions in plain language and get instant, context-rich answers drawn from all relevant data sources often complete with charts, without ever writing SQL or waiting on reports.

In today’s fast-moving business landscape, where insight latency can cost opportunity, Snowflake Intelligence removes the friction between people and information. It transforms static reporting into dynamic, conversational insight, empowering faster problem-solving, data-driven alignment, and real-time decision-making.

How It Works: Behind the Scenes

Snowflake Intelligence is built on Cortex AI, Snowflake’s native AI engine that combines multiple specialized services to deliver conversational analytics. When you ask a question, Cortex AI orchestrates several capabilities working in concert:

An AI “manager” (called an Agent) determines the best path to an answer and assigns the right specialists like Cortex Analyst for SQL generation, Cortex Search for semantic retrieval, and Cortex Complete for reasoning to work together seamlessly.

  • The SQL Expert (Cortex Analyst)
Analyzes structured data like sales, finance, and operations tables, understanding business language and identifying the right columns instantly.
  • The Researcher (Cortex Search)
Reads and interprets unstructured data from PDFs and contracts to emails and support tickets to extract the context needed for deeper insights.
  • Custom Tools: Unlocking Proprietary Business Logic
The true power of an Agent lies in its extensibility, realized through the Custom Integrator (Custom Tools). This feature allows you to extend the agent’s capabilities far beyond native Snowflake functions by connecting to your unique business logic and external systems.

By registering Stored Procedures and User-Defined Functions (UDFs), you empower the  Agent to intelligently invoke proprietary operations. This means the agent can:

  • Execute company-specific calculations and validate data against your established business rules.
  • Retrieve or write information to third-party APIs (e.g., updating a CRM system, checking an inventory database, or triggering an HR workflow).

The agent then combines these findings into a single, coherent answer. This is how Snowflake Intelligence can answer complex questions like, “Why did sales for our fitness apparel grow so much in July?” connecting structured sales trends with unstructured marketing campaigns, customer feedback, and social data to deliver a complete narrative.

Why this is a Game-Changer for Your Business

Snowflake Intelligence comes with several strengths that make it a transformative tool for businesses seeking easy and secure access to data insights.

  • Natural Language Querying
Users can interact with their data by simply asking questions in everyday language, like “Show me top-performing products in Q3.” This feature removes the need to know complex programming languages, making data accessible across all departments.

  • Unified Data Access
    • Seamless Data Connectivity: Snowflake Intelligence connects effortlessly to a wide range of structured and unstructured sources including spreadsheets, documents, CRM systems, and support tickets enabling a unified, organization-wide data view.
    • Zero-Copy Architecture: Built on Snowflake’s zero-copy data model, all data stays in place eliminating physical movement, duplication, and the need for costly replication or ETL processes.
    • 360° Business Visibility: This architecture provides a complete, integrated perspective of business operations, helping teams identify patterns and opportunities across departments.
    • Extended Reach with OpenFlow:
      • Introduced in June 2025, Snowflake OpenFlow is a multi-modal data ingestion service that broadens Snowflake Intelligence’s access to enterprise data.
      • Powered by Apache NiFi, OpenFlow offers hundreds of pre-built connectors for platforms such as Box, Google Ads, Microsoft SharePoint, Oracle, Salesforce Data Cloud, ServiceNow, Workday, and Zendesk.
      • Enables ingestion of unstructured data from cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive, Box), instantly making it AI-ready and no data silos for analysis through Snowflake Intelligence and Cortex AI assistants.
  • Enterprise Grade Security: Secure-by-Design Architecture
Snowflake Intelligence operates entirely within Snowflake’s governed security environment, inheriting existing role-based access controls (RBAC) to maintain compliance and privacy across users and data assets.
    • No Third-Party Exposure:
      • All AI model processing occurs within Snowflake’s secure perimeter; no external API calls or third-party data transfers are required.
      • Fully Hosted AI Models: Snowflake hosts and manages Large Language Models (LLMs) including OpenAI’s GPT models, Anthropic’s Claude,Meta’s Llama, Mistral, and our very own Snowflake Arctic, ensuring data never leaves the Snowflake platform. Your enterprise data remains centralized and secure, inaccessible to other customers, developers, or model providers.
  • Data Privacy Assurance
    • Snowflake never uses customer data to train shared or public models, providing an extra layer of protection unmatched by external AI platforms
    • Regulatory Confidence: This secure, compliant, and closed-loop environment makes Snowflake Intelligence ideal for regulated industries such as BFSI, healthcare, and manufacturing, where data residency and control are critical.
  • AI Agents for Automation: Users can build intelligent agents capable of summarizing documents, generating reports, or triggering workflows automatically. For example, these agents can notify sales teams about key updates or refresh dashboards without manual intervention.
  • Real-Time Analysis with No Data Movement: All processing happens within Snowflake’s platform, so there’s no need to move data to external tools. This reduces latency, improves governance, and enhances overall efficiency by keeping analysis close to the data source.

Together, these strengths empower organizations to democratize data usage, boost productivity, uphold security, and accelerate decision-making with trusted, real-time insights all within a single, unified platform.

Key Benefits Observed in Real-World Use

Across industries, early adopters of Snowflake Intelligence are already witnessing measurable business impact. The platform’s real strength lies not just in faster insights, but in how it transforms collaboration, efficiency, and confidence across decision-making layers.

Here’s what leading enterprises are experiencing:

  • Faster Decision-Making: Instant, conversational insights let users act in minutes, accelerating business rhythm.
  • Improved Collaboration: Shared visibility aligns sales, marketing, and operations, reducing silos and driving accountability.
  • Cost Efficiency: Automation of routine reporting saves analyst time and reduces dependency on technical teams
  • Smarter Workflows: AI agents handle repetitive tasks, freeing teams to focus on high-value analysis.

In short, Snowflake Intelligence doesn’t just accelerate data access, it amplifies human intelligence, empowering every business leader to act with clarity and speed.

Real World Usecase: Transforming MedTech Sales with Snowflake Intelligence

A global MedTech innovator faced a critical challenge: valuable sales and product data were scattered across multiple systems, slowing decisions, and limiting field performance.

Partnering with Kipi.ai, the organisation implemented Snowflake Intelligence, integrating data through agents and a semantic query layer for natural-language insights. Sales representatives now access real-time, surgeon-level intelligence simply by asking questions, no manual reports or IT dependency.

This visibility has enabled better targeting, as reps can tailor conversations to each hospital’s needs based on product usage and surgeon feedback. It has also driven revenue growth by identifying top-performing SKUs, such as reloads, unlocking upsell opportunities and boosting recurring revenue from high-volume products.

Known Limitations

Like any emerging technology, Snowflake Intelligence is still evolving. While it delivers remarkable capabilities, it’s important for business leaders to understand where human oversight and thoughtful design still play a critical role.

Here are a few areas to watch:

  • Contextual Understanding: The system excels at direct queries but can falter with vague or layered questions like “Why are customers unhappy?”  which may need rephrasing or additional data context.
  • Complex Logic Handling: For multi-step joins, predictive analytics, or advanced modeling, traditional SQL or BI platforms remain essential partners to Snowflake’s intelligence layer.
  • Model Availability by Region: Certain advanced AI models (like GPT-4.1 or Claude 3) may not yet be available across all Snowflake regions, requiring technical teams to plan for cross-region configurations. To bridge this, organizations can enable cross-region inference, allowing Snowflake Intelligence to automatically route queries to regions with specific models. The setup is simple, managed through an account-level configuration. While network latency is minimal compared to model processing time, it’s good practice for teams to test performance for their specific workloads
  • Data Residency concern: For regulated industries, the location where sensitive data is stored and processed has direct implications for regulatory compliance, particularly for regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA. When cross-region inference is enabled between AWS regions, data traverses the AWS global network privately with automatic encryption at the physical layer; however, when regions involve different cloud providers, traffic traverses the public internet using encrypted MTLS connections. Organizations subject to data residency requirements must carefully evaluate whether cross-region AI processing aligns with their compliance obligations.

For government or compliance-driven environments, Snowflake keeps processing within the same cloud and security boundary, maintaining data sovereignty and regulatory alignment at every stage.
  • Initial Setup Complexity: Building a trusted semantic layer, defining access roles, and curating governed data views require upfront investment and collaboration between business and IT. Without clean, well-governed data, even the most advanced AI models can produce unreliable results. Organizations must invest in strong data quality, semantic modeling, and governance frameworks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance. Equally important is change management, training users, and aligning business teams on standards. This foundation ensures Snowflake Intelligence delivers trusted, actionable insights, as poor data quality inevitably leads to poor AI outcomes.

Conclusion: The Future Belongs to Intelligent Enterprises
